Worst. Move. Ever.

So, we moved again. I will spare the horrifying details of this- our worst, most drawn-out and impossibly frustrating move ever. Just suffice it to say that it involved a lot of waiting, cleaning, packing, unpacking, packing again, unpacking again, packing AGAIN.

After weeks of false starts, we finally began our hairy-scary move the Saturday of Labor Day weekend (after our mover bailed on us on Friday night!) Skip somehow finagled a U-Haul on the busiest moving weekend of the year and we just had to work out a plan as the timer ticked on the truck rental. Also, that morning (!!) we were miraculously able to snag a couple of the guys from the company who moved us the last time. For this one they were just there to help move the really big stuff like washers and dryers. (If you're local, please throw A&E some business if/when you have any need for movers!) Of course, there was a ton of boxes and other random items left to move after the big stuff... We are still thanking our lucky stars for my awesome parents and our amazing friends who canceled their weekend plans to help us move it all with about 20 minutes notice!! We've no idea how to repay that kind of fabulousness. It's super humbling.

Once we were finally carrying our belongings into the new place around 9pm that night, we were able to get a look around and saw that the house was something of a mess. (The tenant who was here previously wasn't too crazy about housekeeping-- or about moving out, for that matter.) It looked awful- not at all the cute place we had fallen in love with when we first looked at it. It's taken lots of elbow grease, quite a bit of spackle and tons of bleach, but it's starting to feel cozy. It's already almost like... HOME.

Here are some pictures of the new digs... Please keep in mind that we still have a lot of unpacked boxes around since I've been too busy to deal with all of them! (School started for me the week we moved and I also picked up a new, part-time job several weeks later.) And we've hung barely anything on the walls yet. So we're far from completely unpacked, as the pictures will reveal. But you'll hopefully get the idea and enjoy this glimpse of our new love shack.

And now...  Moving on to two of my favorite spots in the whole house:

built-in booze cabinet!!
It's all adorable and original to the house (built in 1930-ish.) This can be found in the hallway near the dining room- help yourself next time you're here.

The book nook
a cozy little spot where the boys can shut themselves in to read books by lantern light. They can be found here surprisingly often.

Hope you'll pop by for a visit soon... Nevermind the dust bunnies.
