One Year Old!

We can't believe it. Rocco's one year old. He doesn't seem phased a bit by this, but we are amazed that it's been both so short and so long since he's been born... I mean, it seems like we've always known him, but it also seems like just yesterday that he was being born! What an awesome year we've had!

The m&m's were the party invites-
the local post office thought I was nuts for
sending these through the mail in the middle of August!
(Admittedly, not my brightest idea ever.)
But they arrived unmelted thanks to some ice packs and brilliant packaging...

His birthday itself was very simple. Mainly because it was Oscar's first day of Kindergarten so our attention had to be divided. But Rocco seems to prefer things simple, anyway. So we played together a lot while both big brothers were at school. We played with one of his favorites- the Fisher-Price doll house we inherited... (Let me tell you, per Rocco's direction, the mommy sure sits on the potty a lot in that family! I don't know where he gets that, since at our house Mommy is lucky to get five seconds in the bathroom!!)

Rocco- a little grouchy mid-morning on his birthday.
(Don't worry- a dip in the bath and he was happy again!)

After dinner we all celebrated with some sweet potato cupcakes (cinnamon cream cheese frosting)... They came out all right- didn't look like much but the taste was yummy! Rocco loves sweet potatoes, so that seemed a fitting ingredient.

Then the following night we had family over for his small party. It was a little crazy since the original plan was for a dinner party out on the deck... But it was kind of rainy so we ended up inside. Luckily, the bounce house fit into our foyer after some furniture rearranging, so the kids blew off steam in there for a while while we got dinner ready. It was a little loud, but worth it. Rocco loved watching everyone bustle about. I made a "hummingbird cake," which has pineapples and mashed bananas in it. It was pretty dense, but Rocco ate every smidge of it!

We've been noticing that Rocco is a very private little guy. I mean that he is full of personality and funny mannerisms, but he saves most of it for when it's just the five of us alone at home together. When we have company or go out somewhere he tends to be more reserved. For instance, I don't think anyone has ever seen him giving us the drooly, open-mouth kisses that we all just love so much! He will even lick the side of your face if you taste especially good that day. It's pretty gross, but the boys think it's hilarious!
